On 18 June 2020, an online seminar called Small Modular Reactors was organised by the New Nuclear Watch Institute with the support from the Energy Industries Council (EIC) and the Nuclear Institute (United Kingdom).
At the event, Rosatom State Corporation, Rolls Royce (United Kingdom) and NuScale Power (USA) presented their designs of small modular reactors.
Elena Pashina, Marketing Director at Rosatom Overseas, told the participants of the seminar about Rosatom’s achievements in SMRs, including about a landmark event in the world’s nuclear industry – commissioning for industrial operation of a one-of-a-kind floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov, about the prospects of using the latest RITM reactors, and about the company's plans to build the first on-land SMR nuclear power plant in Russia by 2027.
“One of Rosatom’s major competitive advantages is referenced and time-tested technologies. We offer solutions that we have already tried – six RITM-200 reactors have already been installed at icebreakers Arktika, Sibir and Ural, of which two saw their physical startup in 2019,” said Elena Pashina.
More than 150 representatives of power and technology companies, scientific circles, state bodies and international mass media gathered at the online seminar.
