The Rosatom State Corporation held seminars in Brasilia and Sao Paulo on Russian SMR solutions for the construction of modern land-based and floating nuclear stations.
The event was organized by Rusatom Overseas, JSC in partnership with Rusatom International Network, PE and JSC “Afrikantov OKBM”.
In his keynote address, Anton Moskvin, Vice President for Marketing and Business Development at Rusatom Overseas, JSC, talked about the potential advantages of small modular reactors: “SMR based nuclear power plants with RITM-200 reactors have been developed through many years of experience in operating reactor technologies for Russian icebreaker fleet. and are ruly innovative products of Rosatom".
During the seminars, representatives of Rosatom described the basic technical specifications of the latest RITM-200 reactors and discussed economic aspects of the construction of SMR based nuclear power plants.
“We are very happy that the seminars have generated a great deal of interest among the expert community in Brazil. We were asked a lot of questions about both technical and socio-economic issues related to the operation of SMRs. This technology can provide a real boost to the development of energy capacity in isolated areas, which is a very real issue in such a large nation as Brazil,” said Ivan Dybov, President of Rosatom America Latina.
150 representatives of various Brazilian organisations participated in the event, including the Ministry of Energy and Mining, the Brazilian Association for the Development of Nuclear Power (ABDAN), the University of Sao Paulo, the Brazilian energy company Amazul, etc.
