Rosatom and Zambia Execute Package Deal on Nuclear Science and Technologies Centre

On 19 June, during the Atomexpo-2017 international forum, Rosatom and the Republic of Zambia signed a package deal on Nuclear Science and Technologies Centre to be built in the latter country.
Atomstroyexport and Zambian Ministry of Higher Education signed a site investigation contract for Nuclear Science and Technologies Centre Project. Under this agreement, Atomstroyexport will promptly initiate field works at the Centre site in order to obtain the data necessary to design and build the facility.
On the same day, Rusatom Service and Zambian Ministry of Higher Education executed a contract for Zambian nuclear infrastructure assessment and development. Under this agreement, the nuclear infrastructure will be assessed, and a roadmap of its development will be prepared in compliance with the IAEA recommendations.
Rusatom Overseas and Zambian Ministry of Higher Education executed the Nuclear Science and Technologies Centre Project Development Agreement at Atomexpo-2017. This is to start negotiating a contract for the centre construction.
‘The Rosatom State Corporation is ready to support our Zambian partners comprehensively in developing their national nuclear science and technology. The agreements executed today represent an important step towards the project implementation. We expect to execute the general contract for Nuclear Science and Technologies Centre construction in 2017’, told Evgeny Pakermanov, President of Rusatom Overseas.
Besides, Rusatom Overseas and Zambian Ministry of Energy executed a Project Development Agreement at Atomexpo-2017. This is to explore the possibility of an NPP project in Zambia and make a feasibility study for such project.
