An open discussion webinar on topic of small modular nuclear reactors was held on 23 June 2020 and organised by the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC) together with the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC).
The world’s leading nuclear energy companies gathered at the virtual venue, including GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy (Japan), NuScale Power (USA), Moltex Energy (USA), Rolls-Royce (UK), the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute, and many others.
Elena Pashina, Marketing Director at Rusatom Overseas, presented Rosatom State Corporation’s latest technologies for small modular reactors, the RITM series reactors, at the webinar.
“I feel proud we can talk about the references that Russian reactor technologies have today. Six RITM-200 reactors have so far been manufactured and installed at the icebreakers Arktika, Sibir and Ural currently under construction; two of them saw their physical startup in 2019,” Elena Pashina pointed out in her speech.
Another Rosatom representative also spoke about the commissioning of the only floating nuclear power plant in the world, Akademik Lomonosov, as well as about the progress in constructing the first on-land SMR NPP based on the RITM-200 reactors in Russia and about the possibility of its construction overseas.
More than 500 participants from all over the world had signed up for the seminar, which highlights a growing global interest to SMR projects as a tool for boosting the efficiency of energy systems and achieving the sustainable development goals.
