Siberian Chemical Combine, a subsidiary of Russian nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL, has successfully completed tests and post-irradiation examination of its ETVS experimental fuel assemblies with mixed nitride fuel for the BREST and BN fast neutron reactors.

A total of 15 ETVS were loaded into the BN-600 fast neutron reactor at Beloyarsk, it said. The milestone justifies the "rationale" for using the fuel at the BREST-OD-300 reactor, which is part of ROSATOM's 'Proryv', or Breakthrough, project to enable a closed nuclear fuel cycle, SCC said.
